Salvador’s Historic Center draws leisure seekers at the new year’s start. Theater lovers can visit the ‘CENAS’ (2026) exhibit at ME Ateliê da Fotografia, free for all ages. Open Friday to Sunday, it immerses visitors in Bahia’s landmark plays, plus the launch of a matching calendar.

Sensitive captures of Bahia theater

Curated by photographer and writer Marcos Cesário, the show features 16 original photos in the calendar and 20 more on display. It captures iconic costumes, lights and visuals from Bahia theater through Mário Edson’s sensitive lens.

Featured plays include As Velhas, Tom na Fazenda, Pássaros de Copacabana, Das “Coisa” da Vida, Bispo, O Galo and Surf no Caos, among others.

“This edition’s images compile records from years dedicated to theater, following plays staged in Bahia, various Brazilian capitals and abroad. Each photo emerges from a blend of technique, passion and attentive listening to the expressive power of the stage,” explains Mário Edson.

The 2026 calendar honors the 70th anniversary of Bahia’s Theater School at Federal University of Bahia and the 20th of Teatral Teatro NU group, founded by playwright Gil Vicente Tavares.
