Cia The Bigosty Show’s opens its season at Parque da Previdência with a show blending circus, music and poetry. Free entry, two performances.
On Sunday, March 29, Parque da Previdência in the Butantã neighborhood of São Paulo hosts two free performances of “Casaco Vermelho” (Red Coat), a contemporary circus show by Cia The Bigosty Show’s suitable for all ages. Sessions take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., each lasting 40 minutes.
Created and performed by Maria Luz and Esteban Hetsch, the show marks the reunion of a duo who previously toured South American countries with itinerant street theater and circus projects. On stage, two characters meet and — through unexpected interactions with objects, costumes and musical instruments — guide audiences through an eccentric, music-filled world.
Balance, comedy and an elusive red coat
With humor and sensitivity, “Casaco Vermelho” explores themes of encounter, discovery and resilience. The performance draws on clowning, tightrope walking and object manipulation. In one of the show’s standout moments, the characters attempt to cross a steel cable in pursuit of an elusive red coat — a symbol that runs throughout the poetic narrative.
First staged in 2022, the show is known for its versatility, having been performed in theaters, parks, libraries and cultural centers, bringing contemporary circus arts to a wide range of audiences.
City-wide tour backed by public arts funding
This season is part of 30 free performances supported by the 10th edition of São Paulo’s Fomento ao Circo (Circus Development Fund), run by the city’s Secretaria Municipal de Cultura. The full run includes shows at Social Circuses, Cultural Centers — with hands-on circus workshops —, Libraries, schools with post-show discussions, and parks and public squares.
About the company and the project
Cia The Bigosty Show’s grew out of Esteban Hetsch’s research into the world of 1940s and 1950s showmen. Since its debut in 2012 at Centro Cultural Rio Verde in São Paulo, the company has maintained an active presence across Brazil and abroad, performing at SESC venues, the Circuito Cultural Paulista, Virada Paulista and international festivals in Europe and South America.
Projeto QAZ is a research hub for Circus and Performing Arts, born from the artistic partnership between Maria Luz and Esteban Hetsch, which began in 2021 during an artist residency at Centro Cultural Tendal da Lapa in São Paulo.
