A tribute to four pillars of Brazilian poetry

The Sarau no Museu (Museum Open-Mic Soirée) returns in 2026 with an edition honoring four essential voices of 20th-century Brazilian poetry: Adão Ventura (1939–2004), Donizete Galvão (1955–2014), Gilka Machado (1893–1980), and Julieta Barbara (1908–2005). Their legacies will be celebrated by a curated lineup of contemporary artists.

Featured guests include writer Diogo Cardoso, theater artist Marcelo Ariel, curator Veronica Stigger, and professor Zilmara Pimentel. The edition is curated by poet and editor Tarso de Melo, who leads the Círculo de Poemas imprint at publisher Fósforo. Books by the guests will be available for purchase at the event.

True to its open-mic spirit, the microphone will be open to anyone who wants to share their own work. The event takes place at 5 PM on the museum’s rooftop terrace, offering a sweeping view of the Luz Station clock tower and the São Paulo city center.

Award-winning hip-hop dance opens Plataforma Conexões

Earlier in the day, at noon in the Central Hall of Estação da Luz, T.F. Cia de Dança kicks off the 2026 season of Plataforma Conexões with the show ELO. Named best dance debut of 2019 by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA), the performance brings together 11 dancers on stage.

Directed and conceived by Igor Gasparini, the piece uses urban dance techniques — including hip-hop — to explore the dialogue between bodies and the architecture of alternative urban spaces. The work speaks directly to this year’s Plataforma Conexões theme: Urban Cultures.

Throughout 2026, the program will present works in dance, music, performance, and multilanguage formats, all in conversation with the current temporary exhibition FUNK: A Cry of Boldness and Freedom, now on view at the museum.

The Museum of the Portuguese Language is an institution of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture, Creative Economy and Creative Industry, housed in the historic Estação da Luz building.
