Sesc School of Dramatic Arts opens enrollment for a free technical theater course with 50 spots in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro.
The Escola Sesc de Artes Dramáticas has opened enrollment for its Technical Course in Theater, starting March 18, 2026. Fifty tuition-free spots are available, split into two classes of 25 students each — one beginning in August 2026 and another in the first half of 2027.
Four semesters, full facilities and a 600-seat theater
The program spans four semesters and awards a Professional Technical Qualification. Classes are held in person during evening hours at the Polo Educacional Sesc campus, located at Av. Ayrton Senna, 5677, in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro. Students have access to modern equipment and a 600-seat theater, where end-of-course productions are staged.
The curriculum emphasizes Latin American theatrical production, scenic discovery, and the fundamentals of other creative disciplines within the performing arts.
Othon Bastos and Vera Holtz among distinguished guest artists
One of the school’s standout features is its faculty and the opportunity for students to engage with celebrated artists during guest lectures. In 2025, the academic year opened with actor Othon Bastos, who performed the solo show “Não me entrego, não!” — a monologue marking his 91st birthday and 70-year career.
Actress Vera Holtz was also a guest, presenting the show “Ficções”, inspired by the bestseller Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, which explores humanity’s unique ability to create and believe in shared narratives.
The selection process includes a personal statement review and a specific skills test with a practical theater exercise — both conducted online.

Applicants must have completed high school and be at least 18 years old. The selection process includes a review of a personal statement describing the candidate’s background and a Specific Skills Test (THE) consisting of a practical theater exercise. All stages are conducted online. Results will be announced by June 24, 2026.
