Museu Histórico da Cidade do Rio presents the group exhibition From Beauty to Chaos, curated by Osvaldo Carvalho, with free admission.
The Museu Histórico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro presents the group exhibition From Beauty to Chaos – the city that lives within us. The show is curated by Osvaldo Carvalho. The proposal invites reflection on the city as a living space.
Inspired by the thought that “the city is not only a physical space, but a forge of relationships”, by Mia Couto, the exhibition brings together artists who explore urban tensions. The works address order and disorder, memory and daily life.
As visitors walk through the exhibition, they experience themes such as identity, belonging and transformation. The visual dialogues form a mosaic. Beauty and chaos complement each other.
The exhibition proposes a philosophical understanding that beauty and chaos walk side by side. The theme crosses music, cinema, literature and theater. In each case, urban life emerges through complementary forces.
Participating artists
The exhibition honors Lia do Rio. Participating artists are Andréa Facchini, Anita Fiszon, Benjamin Rothstein, Bruno Castaing, Daniela Marton, Fátima Vollú, Gloria Seddon, Helena Trindade, Heloisa Alvim, Jabim Nunes, Kacá Versiani, Laura Bonfá Burnier, Leila Bokel, Luís Teixeira, Luiz Badia, Luiz Bhering, Marcela Wirá, Maria Eugênia Baptista, Marilou Winograd, Mario Camargo, Marcelo Rezende, Osvaldo Carvalho, Osvaldo Gaia, Petrillo, Roberto Tavares, Rodrigo Viana, Rose Aguiar, Regina Hornung, Sanagê, Sandra Gonçalves, Sandra Passos, Sonia Guaraldi and Vania Pena C.
Sound video performance
In addition to the exhibition, a sound video performance will take place with André Sheik, Luiz Badia and Osvaldo Carvalho. The project creates live soundtracks for video art images. The visuals combine painting and filming.
The proposal uses projected nature landscapes. The live sound is produced with synthesizers, pianos, guitars and electronic percussion. The goal is to create a sensory immersion.
The presentation will be held during the opening at the museum café. The action lasts 25 minutes. The focus is the viewer’s sensory experience.
Curatorial text
“The city is not only a physical space, but a forge of relationships.”
The curatorial proposal states that beauty and chaos walk hand in hand. It allows the appreciation of charm under complex circumstances. The works reveal personal and collective relationships.
The images move from serene to turbulent feelings. They reveal peculiarities from the exceptional to the trivial. Each artist cuts the urban landscape with a unique gaze.
The works reflect on paradigms and gestures of the city. They seek the essence of urban life and its inhabitants. Human coexistence emerges as a central value.
Side by side, the works form bonds and affective links. Values related to identity, belonging and learning are built. As in Yin Yang, beauty exists in chaos.
