Firjan SESI Performing Arts Showcase features 12 adult and youth plays free at Futuros – Art and Technology from Jan 8-25, exploring emotions, ancestry, and race.
The Flamengo cultural center hosts family-friendly shows Thursday to Sunday. Selected from the Mosaico Rio call by Firjan SESI with Instituto Futuros support. Free tickets available via Sympla the week of each show.
Diverse lineup
Shows start at 7pm weekdays and 6pm weekends. Kicks off with “The Wedding of Princess Asaké” by Centro Cultural Omo Yoruba, blending ancestral dances and percussion. Partnered with GEPUP collective, named state immaterial heritage in 2024.
On Jan 10, “Rain in the Caatinga” revives Henfil characters by Multifoco Companhia de Teatro, marking their 15th year in 2025. Themes cover ancestry, race, and emotions in pieces like “Rádio Cochicho: Resistance and Blackness” and “The Magic Drums of Ibeji”.

Jan 17, 4pm – Carolina’s Dream (All ages, 70 min): Interactive tribute to young Carolina Maria de Jesus.
Jan 18, 4pm – The Magic Door (All ages, 50 min): Girl finds self-esteem via mysterious doors.
Jan 21, 7pm – Sentir (All ages, 50 min): Immersive inclusive dance on disabilities with sensory interactions.
Jan 22, 7pm – Happy Paradise (12+, 60 min): Dystopian comedy on humans and robots in 2070.
Jan 23, 4pm – The Magic Drums of Ibeji and the Emerald Tablet (All ages): Yorùbá cosmogony with Jorge Ben Jor songs.
Jan 24, 4pm – Vinte Luas (All ages, 50 min): Tale of Essomericq during Brazil’s early colonization.
Jan 25, 4pm – The Hunger That Consumes Teens (All ages, 50 min): Explores youths’ invisible emotional hunger.
