Galeria Lume opens Caio Rosa’s solo exhibition “Rios Falam, Rios Cantam”, curated by Cindy Sissokho.
Exhibition highlights new works
Galeria Lume presents “Rios Falam, Rios Cantam”, a solo exhibition showcasing the latest body of work by artist Caio Rosa. Curated by Cindy Sissokho, the show includes photography, sculpture, textiles, musical instruments and sound, expanding the artist’s ongoing exploration of rhythm and memory.
The role of music and the marimba project
Music plays a central role in Rosa’s practice, connecting symbolic territories with generational knowledge. Drawing from African sonic textures and their resonances in Brazilian musical traditions, the artist investigates how sound carries stories of movement, resistance and celebration. A central element of the exhibition is a marimba built in collaboration with his father, ethnomusicologist Spirito Santo.
Photography, memory and cultural heritage
The show presents photographs that weave together family archives — his parents at carnival and his grandfather in military uniform — with documentation of Congadas Mineiras and samba schools in Rio de Janeiro. These images transform personal narratives into collective testimonies, highlighting memory as a temporal thread.
New steel sculptures, a textile piece and a sound archive are also featured, inviting visitors to listening sessions during the exhibition period.
Creative process and relationship with nature
Rosa’s practice embraces a symbolic conversation with rivers, treating water as a co-creator and narrator. This approach departs from traditional photographic methods and brings nature directly into the compositional process.
Materials such as rain, sun and light interact with chemical reactions to create textures in his photographic and sculptural works. Steel, copper, organic paper and photographic emulsion become living surfaces that echo ancestral continuity.
