Essen Biergarten brings German Christmas traditions to Curitiba with typical cuisine, culture, and themed décor.
The end of the year gains special flavor at Essen Biergarten, a restaurant associated with the AHK Paraná, inviting guests to immerse themselves in German Christmas and New Year traditions. The experience blends authentic cuisine, culture, and atmosphere for a true sensory journey.
“Our goal is to offer an experience beyond food, valuing ritual, time at the table, and connection, which are central to German culture during the holidays,” says Marcio Brasil, the restaurant’s owner.
The festive menu includes traditional dishes such as Eisbein (pork knuckle) and Frikadellen (artisan sausages), favorites at German December celebrations. According to Marcio, Eisbein symbolizes abundance and unity in festive meals.
Beyond the food, ambiance plays a key role. “During the holidays, Essen offers a complete experience with traditional cuisine, craft beer, themed decoration, and spaces designed for relaxation, just like in German biergartens,” says Marcio. “Guests are invited to slow down, share, and experience German culture through taste, music, and fellowship.”
Throughout December, Essen Biergarten features special décor, lighting, and cultural programming. “We aim to recreate the atmosphere of traditional German celebrations, honoring their symbols and festive spirit,” he explains.
The community in Curitiba, known for its strong German roots, has embraced the concept. “Many come to Essen to discover or reconnect with German traditions. Engagement increases, especially during the holidays,” says Marcio.
One highlight is the Hackepeter, a traditional raw dish uncommon in Brazil’s Christmas meals. “It often surprises guests and sparks curiosity about German culinary customs,” adds Marcio.
As an AHK Paraná member, Essen Biergarten strengthens its commitment to cultural authenticity and gastronomic exchange between Brazil and Germany. “This partnership enhances our role as a German cultural reference in Curitiba and promotes dialogue among community and tourism sectors.”
