Located in Rio de Janeiro’s Jardim Botânico, the gallery reaffirms its role as a key space for contemporary Brazilian art. Founded in 1962, Novíssimos remains the country’s longest-running collective dedicated to new artistic voices.

“Many careers will still have this ‘new old’ salon as a meaningful step in their artistic journey,” says curator Bruno Miguel.

A diverse panorama of new art

The 13 selected artists highlight distinct creative paths: Makh Hanamakh, Beth Rocha, Bruna Manarelli, Carolina Amorim, Claudia Castro Barbosa, Patrícia Peixoto, Fogo, Ian Raposo, Eduardo Baltazar, Marcelo Rezende, Renan Henrique Carvalho, Ana Leal, and João Buson.

The exhibition brings together painting, photography, drawing, objects, and installations, offering a dialogue between visual languages and individual poetics. At the end of the show, one participant will be awarded a solo exhibition at the gallery.

IBEU’s artistic legacy

Since 1940, the Brazil-United States Institute (IBEU) has played a major role in Brazil’s visual arts scene. Its gallery, inaugurated in 1960, showcased names such as Tarsila do Amaral, Portinari, and Iberê Camargo. In 2017, the new venue opened in Jardim Botânico, continuing IBEU’s mission to promote cultural dialogue and artistic exchange.
