Maricá Inclusive Dance Showcase offers free registration for PWDs until November 30.
Free registration for the Maricá Inclusive Dance Showcase is open until November 30. The event will take place at the Maricá CEU at 3 p.m. on December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities. PWD participants from any city in Rio de Janeiro state may apply, individually or in groups, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.
The registration form can be found on the Instagram of the Expressar Inclusive Dance Group, which organizes the showcase and also performs the opening presentation. Founded five years ago in Niterói, the group includes dancers with and without disabilities and will represent Brazil in a festival in Argentina this month.
“This project was born from my desire to see inclusion truly happening. I chose this format because I believe art is a powerful instrument of transformation.”
The statement is from Daniel Rangel, creator of the project, approved in the Maricá Culture Call. He is the director of the Expressar Group, a wheelchair dancer and Paralympic rowing athlete, ranking second in Brazil in the Single Skiff PR1 category, and first in Rio de Janeiro and Maricá, in addition to being a street runner.
“I carry movement in my body and soul, whether in the water, in dance or on the tracks.”
Participants must bring documentation proving their disability on the day of the event. The program also includes a discussion circle and a sign language interpreter.
“Our goal is to give PWDs the opportunity to present their art in the best way, offering an afternoon of inclusion, equity and empathy.”
