After an emotional debut, Ivete Sangalo returns to Ibirapuera this Saturday (Feb 28) with the Tabernacle Choir, streaming live worldwide on YouTube.
The Brazilian star joins the “Songs of Hope” tour for a second special appearance, sharing the stage with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square at Ginásio do Ibirapuera. The concert will stream globally on the choir’s official YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UsZrbofuic
For audiences across Brazil, 527 meetinghouses of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will also screen the performance. Viewers can find the nearest location here: https://local.churchofjesuschrist.org/pt/br
What Ivete will sing
Ivete’s set includes “Luar do Sertão,” a song performed during the choir’s first visit to Brazil in 1981. The program also features Tom Jobim’s classic “Águas de Março,” plus major hits such as “Eva” and “Quando a Chuva Passar.”
Brazil on stage, big-scale production
Brazil’s presence is also felt within the choir’s permanent roster, with Brazilian members Alan Silva and Álvaro Martins, both based in the United States. Their participation underscores a concert built on cultural exchange and technical excellence.
The Tabernacle Choir’s return to Brazil comes after 45 years, in an initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The production brings together 330 voices and a 70-piece orchestra, all volunteers, as well as 78 instruments, including two harps.
The ensemble is conducted by Mack Wilberg, widely respected in contemporary choral music. In São Paulo, the tour has already drawn thousands and wraps up on Sunday (Mar 1) with a final 4:00 pm performance at Ginásio do Ibirapuera.
A broadcast tradition since 1929
Since 1929, the choir has produced “Music and the Spoken Word,” described as the longest-running continuous radio and TV broadcast in the United States. The group also delivers the most-watched Christmas special on American broadcast television, aired annually on PBS.
Known globally for programs centered on peace, hope, and resilience, the choir is widely regarded as a major cultural institution. All performers are volunteers, balancing professional careers with their musical commitment.
