The final weekend of March offers a rich cultural escape in the mountain town of Itaipava, near Petrópolis. Soberano Jazz Club has lined up three distinct performances spanning contemporary jazz, Brazilian popular music (MPB), and a heartfelt tribute to one of the country’s most beloved vocalists, Emílio Santiago.

Bianca Gismonti opens the weekend

On Thursday (March 26), at 8:30 PM, pianist Bianca Gismonti and Portuguese guitarist Manuel de Oliveira present “Duo piano e violão.” Bianca, daughter of celebrated composer Egberto Gismonti, brings improvisational depth to a set that fuses jazz, fado, and Brazilian rhythms.

The program includes “Lôro” (Egberto Gismonti), “Venham mais cinco” (Zeca Afonso), “Primavera” (Manuel de Oliveira), and “Túneis e nuvem” (Bianca Gismonti). Joining them are Fred Martins (vocals and guitar), José Staneck (harmonica), and Diogo Duque (flute and flugelhorn).

Improvisation creates a hypnotic atmosphere — perfect for starting the weekend in search of sophistication.

Verônica Sabino sings Chico Buarque

Friday (March 27) at 9 PM belongs to Verônica Sabino and her show “Todo Sentimento” — an intimate evening dedicated entirely to the songs of Chico Buarque, one of Brazil’s most important songwriters. The program, conceived and scripted by Verônica herself, features gems like “Maninha,” “Qualquer Canção,” “Carolina”, and “Sabiá.”

Accompanied only by guitarist Fernando Caneca, Verônica reimagines songs she has previously recorded, giving them a fresh intimacy on stage. The result is a celebration of more than 50 years of Chico Buarque’s enduring influence on Brazilian music.

Gui Valença pays tribute to Emílio Santiago

Saturday (March 28) at 9 PM closes the month with Gui Valença and “Aquarelas”, a tribute to the late Emílio Santiago, known as the Prince of Voice. Gui channels his greatest artistic reference with a distinctive vocal style, honoring the timeless repertoire that made Santiago a legend of Brazilian popular music.

The full Soberano experience

Beyond the shows, Soberano Jazz Club offers a complete evening out. Happy hour starts at 5 PM with double draft beers and 20% off appetizers. Dinner at Radamés Bistrô begins at 6 PM, with a menu rooted in local cuisine. Cigar enthusiasts will enjoy the outdoor terrace at Espaço Havana, breathing in the cool mountain air.
