Applications for the “Novíssimos” Open Call at IBEU Art Gallery close on November 16, 2025.
The IBEU Art Gallery, one of Rio de Janeiro’s leading contemporary art spaces, is entering the final days of registration for its “Novíssimos” Open Call, which selects artists from across Brazil for the 2026–2027 exhibition program. Applications are free and must be submitted by November 16, 2025, through the IBEU website.
Supporting contemporary creation
Known for discovering new talents and promoting Brazilian artistic production, the Open Call reinforces the gallery’s mission as a space for experimentation and dialogue between art, audiences, and curatorship. Founded in 1960 in Copacabana, the IBEU Gallery has hosted shows by artists such as Tarsila do Amaral and Cândido Portinari. Since 2017, it has been located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, continuing to foster artistic creation and cultural exchange.
“The return of the ‘Novíssimos’ Open Call marks a symbolic milestone for Rio’s cultural scene, reinforcing IBEU’s role as a platform for artistic production and dialogue between art, science, technology, and culture,” states the IBEU Cultural Commission.
Categories and selection criteria
Open to Brazilian and foreign artists living in the country for at least two years, the call seeks projects related to the curatorial themes defined by the IBEU Cultural Commission: Memory, History and Territoriality; Transcultural Connections between Brazil and the USA; Art and Technology; Art and Sustainability; Experimentation and New Media; and Interactive Art.
The “Novíssimos” Open Call reaffirms the gallery’s mission to democratize access to art and promote diversity in artistic expression within the contemporary landscape.
