Play based on Daniela Chindler’s book presents 10 free performances for Rio’s public school students.
The Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the Municipal Department of Culture present the play “Libraries of the World”, which will hold 10 free performances for students of public schools. The production is inspired by the book by Daniela Chindler and highlights some of the most remarkable libraries in history.
Based on the award-winning book “Libraries of the World,” the play explores the origins of libraries and their role in preserving knowledge. The book received the Malba Tahan Award from the National Foundation for Children’s and Youth Books (FNLIJ) in 2012 and was labeled “Highly Recommended for Children.”
A journey through famous libraries
The show takes the audience on a playful journey through four iconic libraries: the Library of Alexandria, symbol of ancient knowledge; the National Library, brought to Brazil by the Portuguese court; the Biblioburro, a traveling library in Colombia; and the Mindlin Library, known for its rare collections. Each one represents a unique form of access to knowledge.
On stage, four actor-singers perform songs and stories using props and puppets to engage the young audience. Artistic direction and songs are by Guilherme Miranda, with costumes and props by Flavia Rocha. The cast features Adassa Martins, Gabriel Sant´Anna, Jess Araujo, and Thiago Franzé.
Schedule in municipal schools
The performances take place from November 12 to 19 at schools and partner venues such as the Ziembinski Theater and the Rede Cruzada. The project is supported by Parceiros da Educação do Rio de Janeiro and the Instituto Rede Cruzada.
