Four free exhibitions continue at MAB FAAP and the Lutetia building, with new closing dates through March and February—and Caru Duprat until Jan 18.
MAB FAAP is keeping four exhibitions on view with extended runs, spanning emerging student work and a two-decade snapshot of the institution’s artist residency program. The program unfolds both at the museum in Higienópolis and inside the historic Lutetia building in downtown São Paulo.
55th Annual Art Show highlights student production
One of the highlights is the 55th Annual Art Show, a long-running group exhibition in São Paulo’s contemporary art calendar. This edition features 38 works by 34 students from FAAP University Center, across multiple formats, media, and approaches.
The open call focuses on visual production and welcomed submissions from all students. From 135 entries, a selection committee chose the works—professors Lívia Aquino, Luana Fortes, and Luciara Ribeiro, alongside professor Marcos Moraes, director of MAB FAAP.
According to the museum, the selection criteria emphasize research depth, experimentation, and compelling visual and conceptual solutions, as well as strong commitment to process and making.
This edition also includes works by invited artists Gabriel Torggler and Marina Hachem, who took part in FAAP’s Paris residency. The program awards a studio stay at Atelier 1422, which FAAP has maintained since 1997 at the Cité Internationale des Arts on the banks of the Seine.
Exhibition marks 20 years of FAAP’s Artist Residency
On view through March 1, 2026, “20 Years of the FAAP Artist Residency – São Paulo: contributions to a contemporary art collection” brings together 91 Brazilian and international artists and 135 works now held in MAB FAAP’s collection. The exhibition celebrates two decades of one of Brazil’s most consistent residency programs.
“The exhibition shows the strength of this space for experimentation and shared experience, which has fostered contemporary production and expanded dialogues across practices, languages, and cultural contexts.”
The statement is from Marcos Moraes, MAB FAAP’s director. Among the participating artists is Ali Cherri, a Lebanese artist based in France and winner of the Silver Lion at the 2022 Venice Biennale. He presents the video “Slippage” (2007), filmed in Beirut during the July 2006 Lebanon War.
Cherri joined FAAP’s São Paulo residency in 2007 at the Lutetia building, following his 2005 win at the FAAP Digital Arts Prize.
Downtown, “Lance” stays at Lutetia through Feb 28
Through February 28, visitors can see “Lance” at FAAP’s Artist Residency space inside the Lutetia building in São Paulo’s Historic Center. The exhibition presents 14 works by nine artists, produced during their residency period.
The title points to everyday movement between floors and work areas—studios, shared spaces, and service zones—where daily exchanges and collaboration take shape. City routes and access to FAAP’s university studios also fed into the artists’ production.
The works reflect distinct approaches and material experiments that engage with São Paulo and the Lutetia surroundings.
Caru Duprat extends at Mezanino Aberto until Jan 18
The Mezanino Aberto project has been extended through January 18 with “Between Drawing and Painting,” a new solo show by Caru Duprat. Curated by Nancy Betts, the exhibition features more than 40 recent works.
Three series are on view—“Waters that speak of waters,” “Waters that want to be mountains,” and “Passages”—exploring watercolor’s expressive range. Moving between translucency and density, Duprat links the gesture of drawing to painting while echoing ukiyo-e masters such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige.
Drawing on places like Ilhabela, Santorini, and Paraty, the artist proposes a renewed gaze on landscape. “By turning landscape into painting, I try to give shape to what happens when it surrounds me and passes through me,” she says in the project text.
