Manouche Lá Fora hosts Alice Caymmi with “Roda Caymmi”

Alice Caymmi pays tribute to Dorival Caymmi with “Roda Caymmi” in an outdoor sunset concert at Manouche on January 25. The outdoor concert series at Casa Camolese is back. The return features a samba circle in which Alice Caymmi celebrates the work of her grandfather Dorival Caymmi. The show takes place next Sunday, January 25, outdoors at sunset. The project “Roda Caymmi” premiered last summer at the same venue. At that time, the show sold out. Now, the singer resumes the tribute to one of the most important composers in Brazilian popular music.

Dorival Caymmi classics in new arrangements

The repertoire brings together well-known songs by Dorival Caymmi with new arrangements. Highlights include “Maracangalha”, “Modinha para Gabriela”, “Dora” and “Vatapá”. The selection reinforces the strength and timelessness of his work. Alice takes the stage alongside Thiago Souza on mandolin, Rafael Malmith on seven-string guitar, and Makley Matos, Tadeuzinho and André Vercelino on percussion. The lineup enhances the circle format and the samba atmosphere.

Family legacy and artistic identity

“This third generation of the family needs to take care of this legacy,” says Alice Caymmi. According to the singer, the current moment brings greater confidence to embrace this role. “Now, I go without fear, because I have already established myself individually as an artist,” she adds. The statement reflects the balance between honoring tradition and building a personal career. Alice highlights the timeless quality of Dorival Caymmi’s compositions. She also expresses her desire to further popularize these songs among younger audiences, including millennials, generation Z and alpha. “I want to bring his music to my audience,” she says. Through new arrangements, she aims to connect generations and renew the listening experience of this historic repertoire.

New releases and critical acclaim

This contemporary approach also appears in future projects. Alice Caymmi will re-record 12 songs by her grandfather for an upcoming album, with arrangements different from those established decades ago. On January 30, a single featuring “Modinha para Gabriela” will be released. Issued by the Daluz label, the track presents a reggae version with electronic music elements of the theme song from the 1975 TV series “Gabriela”. After attending the show’s debut last year, critic Mauro Ferreira wrote: “Alice Caymmi sings Dorival with the confidence of someone who has already made her own name in 21st-century Brazilian music”. According to him, this consolidated identity makes “Roda Caymmi” sound radiant. The review highlights the singer’s artistic maturity when interpreting her grandfather’s repertoire.
