Six years after launching Brazil’s pandemic live-stream movement, the duo reconnected with fans online to celebrate Fan Day on March 17.
Brazilian sertanejo duo Matheus and Kauan surprised their fanbase on Tuesday night (17) with an unannounced virtual meet-up to mark Fan Day, observed every March 17 under Brazilian law. Inside a live online room, the singers traded stories, laughed, and visibly teared up alongside followers — a moment that underlined the bond they have built over 15 years together.
The campaign born in lockdown
The event echoes a defining moment from March 18, 2020, when the duo launched the campaign “We Will Not Confine Our Voices”. After their scheduled show in the interior of Goias state was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, Matheus grabbed a guitar and went live from his home in Sao Paulo rather than go dark.
It was an idea from our publicist Arleyde Caldi. The concept was simple: once a week we would sing for fans from one of our homes at 8 p.m., then challenge a fellow artist to do the same the following night. That’s how we stayed connected. — Matheus
A spark that went global
The second edition of the series was hosted by Luan Santana, who brought together Father Fabio de Melo and evangelical pastor Deive Leonardo for a musical and ecumenical gathering on March 20, 2020. Gusttavo Lima then took the format to YouTube, and the concept of artist-led home live streams quickly spread worldwide.
The goal was to use technology to stay close to fans while fully respecting health authority guidelines. Since we couldn’t be on stage, we picked up our guitars and sang from home — keeping that contact alive, even if only through Instagram. — Kauan
Tuesday’s reunion was a reminder that, for Matheus and Kauan, a screen has never been a barrier — just a different kind of stage.
