Free exhibition “May 24” presents photos of the 2024 flood in Porto Alegre until November 28.
Exhibit highlights memory and social impact
The exhibition “May 24” remains open until November 28 at the hall of Teatro Renascença in Porto Alegre. The visual arts project reflects on the most significant environmental disaster in the recent history of Rio Grande do Sul.
Admission is free from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends according to the theater’s schedule. The venue is located at Av. Érico Veríssimo, 307, Menino Deus district.
The exhibit features 20 photographs taken by ARFOC-RS professionals, who documented the effects of the 2024 flood on the streets of the capital. The images highlight human loss, solidarity and community resilience.
A space for reflection and awareness
The exhibition encourages social awareness and collective memory. The project invites the public to reflect on preventive policies, environmental vulnerabilities and the legacy left by the tragedy.
The initiative also includes guided visits for public school students, offering an educational approach to climate change and its effects on urban life.
Accessibility and inclusion
The choice of Teatro Renascença reinforces the accessible nature of the exhibition. The venue is a well-known cultural hub in central Porto Alegre, recognized for hosting events that stimulate dialogue and civic engagement.
The exhibition provides QR-code audioguides for blind and low-vision visitors. Trained monitors will be available on November 17, 19 and 21 in the afternoon and on November 24, 26 and 28 in the morning.
“May 24” is funded by the Aldir Blanc National Policy (PNAB) in partnership with the Government of Rio Grande do Sul and SEDAC-RS. The project is produced by Diádico Design Estúdio, with co-production by Ana Paula Domingos.
