Museum in Salvador hosts the Nosso Futuro Festival with exhibitions and workshops during France-Brazil Season 2025.
The National Museum of Afro-Brazilian Culture (MUNCAB), located in the Historic Center of Salvador, is hosting the Nosso Futuro Festival until Saturday, November 8. The event is part of the France-Brazil Season 2025 and features exhibitions, workshops, and activities led by Black artists and cultural figures.
Exhibitions celebrating Afro-diasporic memory
The festival began on Thursday, November 6, with guided tours of the exhibition “Memory: Tales of Another History”, curated by Nadine Hounkpatin (Benin/France) and Jamile Coelho (Brazil). Visitors can also explore “Ancestral: Afro-America | Brazil – USA”, featuring 130 works by Black artists that connect contemporary narratives of identity, territory, and memory.
Guided visits take place daily at 11:40 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., led by museum professionals. On Friday, November 7, admission will be free for festival participants, with mediation available throughout the exhibitions.
Workshops and activities on Saturday
Closing the event, Saturday, November 8, includes additional guided visits at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., as well as the workshops “Weaving Memories” and “Geography of Memory”, both held in the museum’s Educational Space.
The workshop “Weaving Memories”, led by Kim Queiroz, takes place at 11:30 a.m. and invites participants to sew individual memories into a collective quilt using fabric and personal clothing. The second workshop, “Geography of Memory,” also led by Kim, begins at 3:30 p.m. and explores the Black diaspora through collage using symbolic materials.
MUNCAB as a hub of contemporary Black art
According to Cíntia Maria, the museum’s director, MUNCAB is experiencing a period of intense activity. “The MUNCAB program within the ‘Nosso Futuro’ Festival reinforces the museum’s role as a living space for listening, creation, and reconstruction of Afro-diasporic memories through art and dialogue,” she said.
