The musical celebrates two years on stage and 100 performances with free and affordable sessions at Teatro Carlos Gomes.
The musical “O Admirável Sertão de Zé Ramalho” arrives at Teatro Carlos Gomes in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate two years on stage and 100 performances. Seen by over 15,000 people in 10 cities, the show offers free sessions on November 13 and 14, followed by affordable performances on November 15 and 16 (tickets between R$ 10 and R$ 20). Regular sessions run from November 20 to December 14, with prices ranging from R$ 20 to R$ 40.
A poetic portrait of Zé Ramalho
Directed by Marco André Nunes and written by Pedro Kosovski, the musical celebrates the life and work of Brazilian singer Zé Ramalho through a symbolic, non-biographical narrative. Each song becomes a fragment of time, memory, and imagination, revealing the many “Brazils” that inhabit the artist’s world. “The songs reveal moments from this great creator’s life. It’s an invitation to dive into the imagery they evoke,” says Kosovski.
Music, poetry, and the poetic sertão
Created by Barata, the show transforms the sertão — Brazil’s arid hinterland — into a poetic territory that blends theater, poetry, and music. Divided into five parts, it portrays different stages of the artist’s life: Brejo do Cruz, Campina Grande, João Pessoa, Rio de Janeiro, and Popstar, performed by Duda Barata, Muato, Tiago Herz, Nizaj, and Marcello Melo.
The cast also includes Ceiça Moreno, Cesar Werneck, Diego Zangado, and Eli Ferreira, creating a mosaic of voices, sounds, and identities. The production reinforces Zé Ramalho’s legacy as a symbol of resistance, lyricism, and modernity, blending rock, folk poetry, and Northeastern rhythms.
A tribute to Brazilian culture
More than a tribute, the musical reaffirms the sertão as a symbol of creativity and cultural strength, celebrating Zé Ramalho’s songwriting and poetic vision. With support from Petrobras, through the Petrobras Cultural Program, the production continues to inspire generations and express Brazil’s living soul through music and verse.
