The dance piece “IBEJADA” celebrates Black childhood and ancestry with free performances during Black Awareness Month.
The Núcleo Ajeum presents the free season of “IBEJADA”, a creation inspired by Íbéjì, the twin orixá that symbolizes joy and balance. The work offers a poetic journey through Black childhood as a space of freedom, memory, and imagination of new futures.
Childhood, ancestry and resistance
Directed and choreographed by Djalma Moura, the piece invites reflection on duality, brotherhood, and joy as forms of resistance. Jhonny Salaberg’s dramaturgy builds a poetic language between reality and imagination, while Bruno Garcia Onifadé’s research explores the energy of Íbéjì as a source of movement and healing.
Moreover, the stage design by Christopher Silva and Djalma Moura creates a ritual space where bodies and stories become a living landscape. In this way, the show flirts with magical realism, revealing new forms of connection and affection.
Free performances and tour
Free performances take place at CEU Capão Redondo (South Zone of São Paulo) on November 10, 2025, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and at Praça Ramos de Azevedo, downtown, on November 24, at 4 p.m.. The show also tours through the Vale do Ribeira region, with stops in Registro, Iguape, and Ilha Comprida from November 20 to 23.
About the project
The initiative is part of the “IBEJADA: Alegria Negra” project, supported by the Fomento cultSP ProAc 23/2024 program. The work reinforces the importance of memory, struggle, and the appreciation of Black identities during Black Awareness Month.
