After its success in 2025, the Opera at Noon project returns to Rio de Janeiro’s Theatro Municipal with a fresh season designed to make opera accessible and delightful. The 2026 opener, Gaetano Donizetti’s romantic comedy “The Elixir of Love”, will be performed in a pocket version on the theater’s grand staircase at noon.

Under the musical direction and curation of Cyrano Sales and stage direction by Pedro Rothe, the production features choir soloists from Theatro Municipal. The story follows the young Nemorino, who dreams of winning Adina’s heart with the help of a so-called magical potion sold by a traveling doctor.

“Opera at Noon is a great way to enjoy quality performances at lunchtime — and best of all, it’s entirely free,” said Clara Paulino, president of the Teatro Municipal Foundation.

The 2026 season continues throughout the year with productions by Puccini, Verdi, and Rossini, moving between comedy and drama. “The Elixir of Love” marks the joyful start of an ambitious cultural lineup.
