How do you translate colors for someone who has never seen them? That question inspires the Opera of Colors, an immersive initiative by Montenegro Produções that turns the sensory perceptions of visually impaired people into music, visual art, and collective experience. Its second edition begins in April with a creative lab involving around one hundred young participants and is currently seeking sponsors for a national tour.

More than a show, it is a collective creation process. Over four months, participants explore the connection between sound, perception, and imagination. Their sensory experiences will shape a performance combining orchestra, visual projections, and live interpretation in Curitiba, Paranaguá, and São Paulo.

“The Opera of Colors begins with a simple yet powerful question: how does someone who cannot see imagine the colors of music?” — Carolina Montenegro

This new edition features an all-female orchestra, with visual design by Alexandre Órion and musical direction by maestro Alexandre Brasolin. According to Carolina, “participants become co-creators, helping to shape the emotion and aesthetic of the performance”. The project aligns with the UN’s SDG 4 for inclusive education and lifelong learning.

First edition and social impact

The first edition, held in 2023 at Curitiba’s Ópera de Arame, drew thousands of spectators and featured actor and singer Alexandre Nero. Beyond the stage, it hosted concerts and art workshops for public schools, benefiting over two thousand children through creative education initiatives.

Funding and partnerships

The Opera of Colors is approved under Brazil’s Federal Cultural Incentive Law (Lei Rouanet), allowing companies and individuals to contribute through tax-deductible sponsorships. “Supporting projects like this means investing in inclusion, education, and culture,” explains Carolina Montenegro.
