A grand finale for a landmark festival

This Friday, April 10, the Humor Contra-Ataca Festival closes its third edition in style. The farewell night brings together two of Brazil’s most beloved stand-up names to the stage of Qualistage, in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.

Paul Cabannes headlines the evening. The French comedian, who has called Brazil home since 2015, built a remarkable career by turning the cultural contrasts between France and Brazil into sharp, affectionate comedy. A social media phenomenon, he has amassed millions of followers and drew over 100,000 theatergoers during his Parisileiro tour.

Now, Paul is closing the farewell run of Alma de Brasileiro — a show in which he dives deep into Brazilian habits, expressions, and daily quirks that locals rarely stop to notice. His performance at Qualistage marks the end of a defining chapter in his artistic journey in the country.

Osvaldo Barros opens with relatable family humor

Opening the night is Osvaldo Barros, a comedian who turns everyday life into irresistible comedy. Father of Gael and little Lara, he won audiences online with videos where he tries, in his own way, to explain the world to his kids — and his kids to the world.

From marriage mishaps and parenting dilemmas to his passionate support for Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, Osvaldo finds comedy gold in situations that feel instantly familiar. His sketches go viral regularly and get laughs from parents, grandparents, and anyone who’s ever been part of a family.

A whole summer of laughter at Qualistage

Since January 17, Humor Contra-Ataca turned Qualistage’s summer lineup into a comedy marathon. The stage welcomed names like Nany People, Flávia Reis, Xanda Dias, Rodrigo Marques, Júnior Chicó, Luana Zucoloto, Jeffinho Farias, Tom Cavalcante, Titela, Os Melhores do Mundo, Paulinho Serra, Leandro Hassum, Gui Albuquerque, and Rafael Portugal.

Beyond box-office success, the festival helped establish a new cultural movement: proving that comedy has the audience, the energy, and the cultural weight to headline one of Brazil’s biggest venues. The third edition closes as a milestone, with packed houses and a clear message — great comedy is great entertainment.
