History and relevance of the collection

Founded in 2003 and located in the Teatro Municipal de Mauá, the Pinacoteca was created by the mobilization of artists, curators, and civil society. The collection grew from 44 works to over 500, including masters like Lasar Segall, Tomie Ohtake, and Manabu Mabe, as well as contemporary regional artists.

Curatorship and catalog

Coordinated by Maria Luiza Meneses, the catalog gathers texts and images of the works. Contributions from Cecília Camargo, Luciara Ribeiro, Jayne Nunes, William Puntschart, and a poem by Macário Ohana Vangelis highlight local critical thinking. It also includes an educational notebook for teachers and public schools.

Commitment to accessibility and preservation

The project includes a tactile reproduction of Moinho de Sal Matarazzo (1963) by the Inclua-me studio and complete restoration of the painting. This ensures enjoyment by visually impaired people and strengthens democratized access to art.

Cultural activism

For Maria Luiza Meneses, visual arts curator at Centro Cultural São Paulo, the project represents her cultural activism, strengthening the collection of her hometown and keeping its cultural roots alive.
