Mundo Pixar has opened its doors in Rio de Janeiro. The largest Pixar Animation Studios immersive experience in Brazil is now installed at BarraShopping, in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, across 14 scenographic rooms packed with special lighting, soundscapes, custom scents, and life-size characters. Aurora Cultural attended the preview event and walked through every single universe.

A Walk Through 14 Pixar Worlds

The journey opens in A Bug’s Life, where visitors shrink down to insect size alongside Flik, Princess Dot, and the menacing Hopper. The next stop is the Scream Processing Floor from Monsters, Inc., with Mike and Sulley hard at work — and Boo’s closet door slightly ajar as Randall lurks in the shadows.

Up follows, with Carl Fredricksen’s balloon-lifted house reaching toward the sky and the lovable Dug waiting to greet visitors en route to Paradise Falls. Then Turning Red recreates Meilin Lee’s school hallway in full detail — and yes, Meilin has already transformed into a Red Panda and is ready for photos.

Finding Nemo dives deep into the ocean with Dory and Nemo — visitors might even pick up a bit of Whale. Elemental offers a subway ride through a city where fire, water, earth, and air citizens share daily life, with Ember and Wade relaxing in the train car. In The Incredibles, Edna Mode’s iconic E Suites atelier showcases interactive costumes and mirrors.

The Headquarters from Inside Out is fully redesigned to reflect teenage Riley’s emotional landscape, now featuring new feelings on the control panel. Coco shines brightest in two back-to-back rooms: Miguel’s home with the family ofrenda, followed by the breathtaking Land of the Dead — glowing in the dark to the film’s original score.

The sun-drenched Portorosso from Luca beckons with gelato and the mischievous cat Machiavelli roaming free. Cars revives Radiator Springs with Lightning McQueen at Casa della Tires and the swift Guido changing tires at full speed. Finally, Toy Story closes the tour with two unmissable rooms: Andy’s bedroom, where you feel like a toy beside Woody and Buzz, and Sunnyside Daycare, with Lotso welcoming guests while Jessie keeps a watchful eye.

The Hidden Pixar Ball Challenge

In each of the 14 rooms, a Pixar Ball is hidden somewhere in the set. There’s no prize for spotting them all — but the hunt becomes a game in itself, sharpening young eyes and delighting even the most seasoned Pixar fans.

The story behind animation’s most famous ball

It all began in 1986 with the short film Luxo Jr., the very first production made by Pixar Animation Studios. Directed by John Lasseter, the two-minute short features a parent lamp and its child, young Luxo Jr., playing with a small yellow ball bearing a blue stripe and a red star.

Since then, the Luxo Ball has become the studio’s secret signature, hidden in the background of nearly every feature film — from Toy Story to Elemental. Luxo Jr. was also the first CGI-animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award, and the seed that grew into the world’s most celebrated animation studio.

The Luxo Ball is now as recognizable a symbol as the hopping lamp in Pixar’s opening sequence — and it’s hiding in all 14 rooms of Mundo Pixar Rio de Janeiro.
