Polifonia Paulista, a choir founded in 2025 under the direction of maestro Jésus Figueiredo and preparatory conductor Diego Pellegrini Totaro, presents another concert as part of its activities in partnership with the Associação de Canto Coral. The performance takes place on November 30, at 1:30 p.m., with free admission, at Nossa Senhora da Consolação Parish.

The program highlights two pillars of European Baroque music: Gloria RV 589, by Antonio Vivaldi, and selected choruses from Messiah, by Georg Friedrich Händel. The ensemble uses period instruments, offering a sound closer to historical performance practices.

Period instruments

The concert features Baroque strings — violins, viola, cello and double bass — as well as traverso, Baroque oboe, two Baroque trumpets and spinet, performed by maestro Jésus Figueiredo. The choice reinforces the group’s commitment to historical research.

The initiative seeks to emphasize classical repertoire and bring audiences closer to choral concert music. Polifonia Paulista invests in technical excellence, continuous training and projects that strengthen the choral tradition in São Paulo.

Minibios

Jésus Figueiredo holds a Master’s degree from Haute École de Musique de Genève, with training in early music, conducting, organ and harpsichord. He served as Principal Conductor of the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro Choir and is currently Assistant Conductor of the TMRJ Artistic Direction. He is Music Director of Associação de Canto Coral and a postgraduate professor at Conservatório Brasileiro de Música. With more than 25 years of career, he has conducted orchestras such as the Brazilian Symphony and directed productions including Orfeo, L’elisir d’amore and the ballet Macunaíma.

Diego Pellegrini Totaro is preparatory conductor and coordinator of Polifonia Paulista. He began musical studies in 1997. He studied choral conducting with Jésus Figueiredo and at ULM/EMESP with Marco Julio Sergl, and orchestral conducting with Sérgio Chnee and Roberto Tibiriçá. He worked for 15 years as a conductor of choirs and orchestras and founded the Polifonia Paulista Choir in 2025.

Jacqueline Domingos, mezzo-soprano, has performed in operas, choral and symphonic concerts. She was part of the OSESP Academic Choir and appeared in Gilberto Gil’s opera *Amor Azul*. Trained by Francisco Campos, Andréa Kaiser, Edna d’Oliveira and Helly-Anne Caram, she was a soloist in *Petite Messe Solennelle* at Música em Trancoso and sings with Madrigal Nouve Musique and Coro Osvaldo Lacerda.

Lygia Polia began classical singing studies at the Escola Municipal de Música. She performed in works such as *Carmina Burana* and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. She sang *War Requiem* with the OSESP Choir under Marin Alsop. She joined Música em Trancoso interpreting Verdi and *Porgy and Bess*, and was part of the OSESP Academic Choir between 2020 and 2023. She currently studies with Laryssa Alvarazi.
