São Paulo’s public libraries offer free musical programming for Musicians’ Day on November 22.
The City of São Paulo, through the Department of Culture and Creative Economy and the Municipal Library System, presents a special edition of the Biblioteca Viva program to celebrate Brazil’s National Musicians’ Day. The schedule features “Os Livros e As Canções”, by Evandro Bene & Banda, and “Somos”, by Irmão Black and Fahntastica, totaling seven free performances open to all audiences.
“Os Livros e As Canções” premiered at the Roberto Santos Library on November 13 and moves on to six additional units. The performances take place at José Mauro Vasconcelos (Nov 19, 2 p.m.), Viriato Corrêa (Nov 25, 2 p.m.), Álvares de Azevedo (Nov 26, 2 p.m.), Cassiano Ricardo (Nov 27, 2 p.m.), Mário Schenberg (Nov 28, 2 p.m.) and Camila Cerqueira César (Nov 29, 1 p.m.). The project blends books and music, presenting a varied repertoire inspired by literature.
Additionally, “Somos” brings a unique performance to the Parque Lajeado Reading Grove on November 29 at 2 p.m., featuring original songs, spoken poetry and performative elements focused on ancestry, memory and identity.
Other musical activities are scheduled across the library network. At the Álvares de Azevedo Library, a pandeiro workshop with Well Martins takes place every Saturday, including November 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. The Cassiano Ricardo Library hosts a music games workshop on November 25, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Alceu Amoroso Lima Library presents the “Maestro Danilo – Mosaico Choir Meeting” on November 29, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., highlighting classics of Brazilian music.
Musicians’ Day, celebrated on November 22 in Brazil, honors the professionals who dedicate their lives to musical creation and performance. The date is associated with Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, and recognizes the diverse roles that shape the musical landscape.

Music across cultural venues
The celebrations extend to other cultural venues in the city. On November 22, events include the Flash Balanço party at Centro Cultural Grajaú at 6 p.m.; a performance by Celsinho Mody at Centro Cultural da Juventude at 6 p.m.; Rahessa at Vila Itororó at 7 p.m.; and the USP Choir at Centro Cultural Olido at 4 p.m.
Casas de Cultura also feature music programming, such as Grupo Afro Babalotim on November 20 at 3 p.m. at Casa de Cultura Raul Seixas, and the “Raizes Negras” project at Casa de Cultura Hip Hop Leste at 2 p.m.
