At 40 years old, Renato Albani is hitting the road with what he calls the finest work of his career. The new show, A Ignorância É Uma Dádiva (“Ignorance Is a Gift”), lands in Rio de Janeiro on April 19 for a one-night performance at Qualistage, in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood.

A record before the curtain even rose

The buzz around this tour began well before opening night: over 40,000 tickets sold in just 24 hours. That figure cements Albani’s reputation as one of Brazil’s most in-demand stand-up comedians, with extra dates already added across the country to meet audience demand.

The new show follows the landmark success of Zona de Conforto (“Comfort Zone”), which sold out more than 600 performances and drew over 250,000 people. Albani performed 310 sold-out shows in 2023 and 290 in 2024.

Growing up, the internet, and sharp comedy

In Ignorance Is a Gift, Albani turns his trademark wit on topics like aging, social media, and the absurdities of modern life. He speaks as a member of the last generation to grow up before smartphones reshaped everything.

Our generation is the last one that didn’t grow up with social media… that still remembered how to live. In this show, I talk about how the internet gave some people the power to do everything — and others, nothing.

He also pokes fun at shifting social norms: “Back in my day, bullying was lighter. You had to mock someone to their face, so there was a certain restraint, a sense of shame involved.”

From Brazil to Europe

After sweeping through dozens of Brazilian cities, the tour heads to Europe. Confirmed stops in Portugal include Braga, Águeda, Guimarães, Porto, Leiria, Coimbra, Santarém, Albufeira, and Lisbon, plus a date in Dublin, Ireland — a sign of how far Brazilian comedy has traveled.

Online, Albani’s reach is equally impressive. His special Assim Caminha a Humanidade (“Thus Walks Humanity”), released for free on YouTube, has already surpassed 2.2 million views.
