Rio’s Christmas Consecrates Botafogo Cove

Rio’s Christmas turned Botafogo Cove into a cultural hub with an 80m floating tree and over 650,000 visitors through January 6.

First edition sparks plural success

Families, kids and tourists filled Botafogo Cove‘s waterfront from November 30. The event fostered democratic, heartfelt experiences. Conceived by Abel Gomes (SRCOM) and produced by Accioly Participações, it restored the site’s historic role.

The 80-meter floating tree, lit by 2.3 million LEDs, became Rio’s new postcard. At dusk, crowds watched daily light-ups for 38 nights, featuring fireworks and water ballet every 30 minutes.

The light switch-on magic sparked silent awe and spontaneous applause against Sugarloaf Mountain.

Inclusive music and kids’ programming

Shows united generations. The opening Samba Orchestra led by Pretinho da Serrinha featured Belo and Rachell Luz, blending samba and Carioca spirit. Later acts included Nego Álvaro, Nova Orquestra, Fróes e Banda, Grupo Arruda, Forró da Taylor, DJs Michell and Camila Brunetta.

Kids enjoyed Storytelling Rugs and Circus Workshop by Circo no Ato. Bloco Que Pena Amor closed with street party vibes.

Food village and sports activities

The food village extended stays with seaside food trucks. Runners and swimmers made it an Instagram hotspot. Hawaiian Canoe and Stand Up Paddle activities boosted its tourist appeal.

Security, medical care and smooth flow created a sense of shared belonging.
