Rocinha is gearing up for one of the most anticipated moments of the 2026 World Cup with a large-scale community celebration. On Saturday, June 13, the neighborhood will host a live screening of Brazil’s opening match against Morocco on a giant screen set up at Via Ápia.
The Group C clash kicks off at 7 p.m. (Brasília time) at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Organized by the Rocinha Residents’ Association, the event is expected to turn the area into a central gathering point for fans, locals, and visitors.
World Cup spirit takes over
The community has already embraced the tournament atmosphere, with streets decorated in Brazil’s iconic green and yellow. Images of Via Ápia have gained international media attention and spread widely across social platforms.
Drone footage showcasing the area’s unique landscape has further boosted Rocinha’s visibility, attracting curiosity from tourists and reinforcing its cultural appeal.
More than just a match
The initiative goes beyond football. João Bosco, president of the Rocinha Residents’ Association, highlights the broader goal of bringing people together.

The event is also expected to boost local businesses, with increased movement benefiting bars, restaurants, and tourism spots across the neighborhood.
Match history and program
This will be the fourth meeting between Brazil and Morocco. Brazil holds the advantage with two wins, including a 3–0 victory during the 1998 World Cup group stage.
Morocco, however, won the most recent encounter in a 2023 friendly, adding extra intrigue to the opening match.
During halftime, live musical performances will take place on a stage set up within the community, extending the experience beyond the match itself.
