Saeborg brings “Super Farm” to Sesc Consolação, with a performance on humans and animals and the Au-Au Therapy workshop.
International show arrives in São Paulo
Sesc São Paulo and the Japan Foundation celebrate 130 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Japan with the international performance “Super Farm”, by Japanese artist Saeborg. The presentations take place at Sesc Consolação on November 15, 16, 18 and 19.
According to the artist, the audience is invited to become characters inspired by livestock animals, in a space resembling a life-sized toy farm.
Playful and critical experience
With pop aesthetics, humor and sharp critical dimension, the show questions the boundaries between human, animal and artificial. The stage becomes a colorful farm where stylized rubber animals portray cycles such as nursing, reproduction and slaughter.
The performance raises reflections on identity and strangeness by asking: “How do we deal with the monster, a strange element? After all, who are the monsters?”
With a free rating, the experience welcomes children and adults, encouraging interaction with the characters.
Au-Au Therapy workshop
The program also includes the Au-Au Therapy workshop on November 18 and 19. The activity invites the audience to interact using canine language and communicate with a Sae-dog, a sensitive being created by Saeborg.
By comforting the Sae-dog, participants connect with their own vulnerabilities. The workshop is presented by Saeborg, mediated by Mayumi and performed by Sae-dogs Checheria, Tae Tsuyuki and Miho Imai.
About the artist
Saeborg, winner of the Tokyo Contemporary Art Award 2022-2024, uses latex costumes as extensions of her body. Her work explores identity, the body and human–animal relations, with exhibitions at events such as the Athens Biennale and Dark Mofo Festival.
She seeks to transcend categorized identities by creating playful utopias of “inferior” organisms.
