In Paraty’s Historic Center, Sandi Hotel turns into an art hotel with a permanent gallery, opening with a Claudio Edinger show and works by Reis, Mecarelli and Wickbold.
Located in the heart of Paraty’s Historic Center, Sandi Hotel enters a new phase as it transforms into an art hotel, blending hospitality, contemporary art and sensorial experience. From November on, the property also operates as a permanent gallery, allowing guests and visitors to purchase works displayed in its common areas and experience art as an organic part of their stay.
The hotel’s interiors now host both permanent and rotating exhibitions, turning corridors, lounges and the breakfast room into exhibition spaces. The first chapter of this initiative is dedicated to a show by photographer Claudio Edinger, one of the most acclaimed names in Brazilian photography.
Claudio Edinger opens the permanent gallery
A winner of Leica, Hasselblad, Life Magazine, Ernst Haas and JP Morgan awards, Claudio Edinger is the author of 25 photo books and has works in collections such as LACMA, MASP, MAM and Maison Européenne de la Photographie. Trained in Economics, he was featured in Forbes’ 2024 50 Over 50 list and continues to produce new series and books, including Aéreas do Brasil, Índia and Judeus Hassídicos.
At Sandi Hotel’s breakfast room, his images engage in a poetic dialogue with natural light and Paraty’s atmosphere, intensifying the sensorial experience of the space. The photographs invite guests to look at the city and the world through Edinger’s distinctive framing, textures and chromatic choices.
Almir Reis, Gian Carlo Mecarelli and Gabriel Wickbold in the corridors
Along the corridors of the art hotel, the visual conversation expands with works by Almir Reis and Gian Carlo Mecarelli. Reis, a São Paulo-born photographer and painter based in Lisbon, combines photography and painting in series such as Mergulhos and Piscinas – Palm Springs, exploring colour, angles and collage to create intimate, authorial images.
Mecarelli, an Italian-Brazilian artist recognised for his focus on Paraty’s light and landscapes, reinforces the bond between the hotel and its surroundings, bringing the coastal city’s visual identity into the gallery space. The collection at Sandi Hotel also features works by Gabriel Wickbold, a key figure in Brazil’s contemporary art scene, whose presence adds strength and diversity to the ensemble.
An art hotel as a meeting place
“Sandi Hotel has always been a space for expression and encounters. Becoming an art hotel, with permanent and rotating exhibitions, is our way of honouring the artists we admire and offering our guests a deeper, more emotional connection with art,” says Sandi Adamiu.
With its new permanent gallery, Sandi Hotel reaffirms its role as a cultural and hospitality hub on the Costa Verde. More than a place to stay, it positions itself as a platform for artists, with a living, constantly renewed collection, and as a setting for discovery for travellers who value authenticity, curatorship and artistic expression in every detail.
