On March 21, Brazil’s Museu do Futebol unveils an audio guide on Black protagonism in football — plus a special jersey collectors’ fair on the 7th.
The Museu do Futebol in São Paulo, an institution under the State Secretariat for Culture, Creative Economy and Industry, is opening March with one of its most culturally rich schedules of the year. Two events lead the lineup: the 7th Football Jersey Collectors’ Fair, in a special edition celebrating women collectors, and the launch of the Audioguia Protagonismo Negro no Futebol (Black Protagonism in Football Audio Guide), a landmark initiative recognizing the central role of Black players in Brazilian football history.
Collectors take the field on March 7
On March 7, the museum’s outdoor area hosts the free jersey collectors’ fair from 9 AM to 5 PM. This edition shines a spotlight on women in football collecting culture. That same day, the 183rd Memofut Meeting — the Football Literature and Memory Group — takes place in the auditorium from 9 AM to 1 PM, also free of charge.
A new voice for Black football history
The highlight of the month arrives on March 21, when the Armando Nogueira Auditorium hosts the launch of the Black Protagonism in Football Audio Guide, from 10 AM to 1 PM, free admission. The guide deepens the museum’s commitment to telling the stories of Black athletes who shaped the sport in Brazil — figures whose contributions have long been underrepresented in official narratives.
Free Tuesdays and family activities
On March 3, the museum holds its monthly Super Tuesday — extended hours from 9 AM to 9 PM with free admission. Family activities run throughout the month, including a Flipbook Workshop, World Cups trivia, and Brincar de Futebol (Playing Football), all led by the Education team.
On March 8, the Cineteatro Boleirinho presents Carinhoso Futebol Clube in the kamishibai format — a Japanese paper-cut storytelling tradition using shadow play — at 2 PM in the Grande Área. Tickets at the box office.
Exhibitions on view
Two temporary exhibitions are currently on display. Cancha Brava! South American Football in Dispute takes a historical, political and poetic look at football across CONMEBOL nations, curated by Luiza Romão, Matias Pinto and Gisele de Paula. The Kings of Football, in the Zona Mista room, revisits the Club Athletico Paulistano’s groundbreaking 1925 European tour — nine wins in ten matches — and highlights the legacy of Arthur Friedenreich.
Guided tours with educators run on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 AM and 2 PM, for groups of up to 15 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, at no extra cost beyond admission.
