Senior artists take center stage

The Ilha em Dança 60+ dance company is hitting the streets of Greater Florianópolis with the Movimento 60+ Project, a series of five free cultural events featuring artistic performances, dance workshops, and roundtable discussions on active aging. The initiative reaches the municipalities of Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, Biguaçu, São José, Palhoça, and Florianópolis throughout April and May 2026.

Made up of 16 members between the ages of 53 and 85, the group is one of Brazil’s leading references in senior dance. The company has performed at prestigious events such as the Festival de Dança de Joinville and Baila Floripa, bringing a strong artistic identity that challenges stereotypes about age, body, and creativity.

Dance as a tool for health and inclusion

Each city on the tour will host a performance by the RR Master de Dança ensemble, a dance activity led by choreographer Ronaldo Rodrigues, and a conversation about well-being and quality of life in older age. The project aims to directly reach around 250 people across all events.

We want to show older people that dance — beyond stimulating the body, mind, and social connections — promotes physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.

Ronaldo Rodrigues, choreographer and coordinator of Projeto Movimento 60+

All activities are fully accessible, with physical, communicational, and programmatic accommodations, including Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreters, ensuring everyone can participate.

April schedule across three cities

The tour kicks off on April 9 (Thursday) in Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, at 2 PM, at Rua Pedro Mansur Elias, 128, downtown, near Avenida Beira Rio. On April 12 (Sunday), activities move to Biguaçu, at 2 PM, at Rua Irmã Maria Gema Siqueira, 253, Bairro Vendaval. On April 17 (Thursday), the project arrives in São José, at Praça do CEU, Rua Eduardo Mikuski, 124, Bairro Ipiranga, also at 2 PM.

In May, events continue in Palhoça and Florianópolis. Follow the full schedule on Instagram at @ciaronaldorodrigues.
