Urban, peripheral dance takes over Sesc 24 de Maio from Feb 19 to Mar 1, with free Charme sessions and Grupo Favela shows on stage.
“Calorão – Dança Pra Suar” returns with a summer-ready lineup built around high-energy grooves and contemporary sounds. The idea is simple: let movement speak, whether you’re a beginner or already dance regularly. The program combines free participatory sessions with theater performances that bridge urban and contemporary dance.
Charme on the plaza: steps and roots
On Feb 19 and 26, Murilo Prado leads “Pra D’ançar Charme,” a hands-on session where the audience learns classic Charme “passinhos” (signature step patterns). Held on the venue’s ground-floor plaza, it connects participants to the music and the Black cultural identity that shapes this unmistakable Brazilian urban expression. It’s free and open to all ages.
Grupo Favela at the theater: Motiró and Galpão
From Feb 26 onward, the theater hosts Grupo Favela, directed by Samuel Lima, in two works that center territory, collective creation, and stage presence. In “Motiró” (Feb 26–27), a title rooted in Tupi-Guarani evokes people joining forces for harvest or communal building. The piece blends urban and contemporary dance through a shared creative process, spotlighting the power of the favelas and their artistic and cultural relevance.

“Galpão” (Feb 28 and Mar 1) turns to questions of territory, body, and belonging. The floor becomes memory and momentum: bodies carry weight, trace paths, and meet in an ongoing game of tension and flow.
