Independent filmmakers from 21 Brazilian states can submit films until March 31 and compete for licensing deals worth up to R$255,000.
The 9th Sesc Cinema Showcase has opened submissions for independent Brazilian filmmakers, offering not just national exposure but also licensing deals totaling up to R$255,000 for winning works. Winners will be announced by July 1, 2026.
Eligibility and submissions
Short, medium, and feature-length films completed on or after January 1, 2024 are eligible, as long as they have not been screened commercially or released on video on demand (VOD) platforms before the submission deadline of March 31. Registration is free at www.sesc.com.br/mostradecinema.
This edition includes filmmakers residing in 21 states: Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Federal District, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Tocantins. Each state will select up to two films through panels of invited experts and Sesc professionals.
Exhibition panoramas
Selected films are organized into four exhibition groups. The Brazil Panorama will screen 21 productions across Sesc venues in multiple states. The State Panorama will circulate films within their home states. For the Northern Region, a dedicated Regional Panorama will bring together productions from participating states in that area. Finally, the Children’s and Youth Panorama will feature up to 10 films for younger audiences.
The Brazil Panorama and Children’s and Youth screenings are scheduled for September 2026, while the State Panorama runs from October through December 2026.
A legacy for independent cinema
Over its previous eight editions, the Sesc Cinema Showcase has licensed approximately 400 independent Brazilian films, establishing itself as one of the country’s most important platforms for filmmakers outside the commercial circuit.
At a moment when Brazilian cinema is experiencing a new surge — with productions filling theaters and winning awards around the world — the Sesc Cinema Showcase reaffirms the institution’s commitment to strengthening Brazilian audiovisual production by opening space for independent films. By screening these works in Sesc venues across Brazil, we give new talent the opportunity to reach audiences with their stories — Leonardo Minervini, interim Culture Manager at Sesc’s National Department.
The Showcase also helps consolidate a diverse, democratic, and powerful cultural network. Investing in Brazilian cinema means investing in our identity, our memory, and our ability to tell our stories to the world — Leonardo Minervini.
