On Sunday, April 12, nine cultural spaces across six Brazilian cities open their doors for free to mark Shell’s 113th anniversary in Brazil.
Shell’s 113th anniversary in Brazil becomes a gift to the public. The company officially marks the date on April 13 — but celebrations kick off a day early, on Sunday, April 12, when nine museums and cultural venues spread across six cities will offer free admission to all visitors.
From the Amazon to the South: venues taking part
In Rio de Janeiro, three museums join the initiative: the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow), with its immersive science and futures exhibitions; the Museu do Jardim Botânico, focused on botany and Brazilian flora conservation; and the Museu do Pontal, a landmark collection of Brazilian folk art. The city also hosts free concerts by the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira on April 10 and 11, at the Igreja de São Francisco de Paula, and a guided tour of the exhibition BREU at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, led by photographer Vicente de Mello.
In São Paulo, the Museu Catavento and the Museu do Ipiranga are part of the program, linking science, education, and Brazilian history. The city’s Cinemateca also joined the celebration with special screenings held in late March.
In Minas Gerais, the Instituto Inhotim opens its grounds for free and features a performance by the Adult Choir amid its open-air botanical gardens and contemporary art pavilions — a one-of-a-kind experience that blends landscape and art at a global scale.
In Brasília, the SESI Lab invites visitors into an interactive space where science, technology, and society converge. The Clube do Choro rounds out the capital’s program with a special concert by the Choro Popular Orquestra.
In northern Brazil, the Bienal das Amazônias in Pará joins the initiative with free entry and a full program of children’s activities — storytelling, theater, and workshops using recycled materials — while centering Amazonian voices in contemporary art and social debate.
In the South, the Theatro São Pedro in Porto Alegre opens the doors of one of Rio Grande do Sul’s most historic and beloved cultural landmarks.
Culture at the core of a century-long story
Shell has been present in Brazil for over a century, with culture as a central pillar of its work in the country. The company was among the first corporations to invest in culture in Brazil, as far back as the 1950s. Decades later, it created the Shell Theater Award in the 1980s, now recognized as one of the most prestigious in Brazilian theater.

In 2026, Shell is directing approximately R$ 64 million toward 54 active cultural projects, all supported through Brazil’s Federal Culture Incentive Law. The investment strengthens citizenship and expands positive social impact across the country.
