Spotted by a Greek director at a film festival, the star of Regra 34 joins a Greece-Italy-Cyprus co-production filming in the Aegean Sea.
An invitation born in Athens
Brazilian actress Sol Miranda has landed her first international role: A Thousand Days, A Thousand Nights, directed by Greek filmmaker Syllas Tzoumerkas. The film will be shot on the Dodecanese islands in the Aegean Sea, the region where the director grew up.
The invitation came through a chance encounter at an Athens festival. Tzoumerkas watched Regra 34, directed by Julia Murat, shortly after its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, where the Brazilian film won the Golden Leopard. In the film, Sol plays Simone — a role that earned her Best Performance awards at the Huelva and ZineGoak festivals in Spain, as well as at Brazil’s Mix Brasil festival.
Isis, a woman of the world
In A Thousand Days, A Thousand Nights, Sol plays Isis, an archaeologist inspired by the goddess of the same name. Set in the 1980s, the character arrives on the islands as an assistant professor at an American university, taking part in an excavation that uncovers a kouros statue — a sculpture from Ancient Greece.
Isis is described as a true “citizen of the world” — a woman who built her own path by living across different countries, studying and traveling far from her birthplace. On an island undergoing deep social change, her presence brings an energy that is independent, direct, and distinctly modern.
The emotional core of the film centers on the bond between Isis and Erika, a young local woman carrying a violent family legacy. Through their relationship, the film explores the tension between tradition and modernity, belonging and displacement.
“Brazilian cinema opens unexpected doors”
“For me, this is a very special invitation, because it was born from an artistic encounter through Brazilian cinema and opens a direct bridge with another film culture. This is my first project with an entirely foreign crew, and knowing that this invitation came from a festival screening makes it even more meaningful. It is proof of how Brazilian cinema, when it travels the world, touches people and opens doors we could never have imagined.” — Sol Miranda
A three-country co-production
The project is an international co-production between Greece, Italy, and Cyprus, produced by Homemade Films, Nefertiti Film, and Felony Productions. The cast brings together European film actors and residents of the very islands where the film is being made.
