Recovered Art from São Paulo Theft
A stash of 34 artworks, reclaimed by an insurer after a high-profile burglary in a São Paulo home, now dazzles at James Lisboa Art Office.
The “Echoes of a Collection” show celebrates their return. Fourteen pieces sold at the first auction on October 27, 2025. Twenty more go under the hammer February 2.
Spotlight on Volpi and Manuel
Alfredo Volpi (1896-1988), Brazil’s modernism giant, features “Fachada” and “Untitled”. Both tempera on canvas from the 1960s, starting bids at R$400K and R$1.5M.
“Fachada” (40×30 cm, ACOAV 1774) and “Untitled” (108×72 cm, c.1969, ACOAV 2061) are cataloged by the Volpi Institute.
Antonio Manuel, Portugal-born Brazilian artist since 1953, offers “The Image of Violence” (1968, mixed media on Eucatex, 120×80 cm, R$500K start). It captures era-defining repression.
These aren’t just paintings—they’re Brazilian history snatched back from thieves.
