330 voices, city officials, and a mystery Brazilian music star: the Tabernacle Choir launched its Brazil tour with a landmark premiere at Sala São Paulo.
The opening night of the Tabernacle Choir‘s Brazilian season transformed Sala São Paulo into a gathering of artists, public officials, and cultural figures. The performance kicks off a series of shows in the country, leading up to three free concerts at the Ibirapuera Arena scheduled from February 27 through March 1.
A Night of Notable Faces
Among the attendees were São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes and his wife, Regina Carnovale Nunes, alongside acclaimed conductor João Carlos Martins. Illusionist Pyong Lee attended with Júlia Pereira, and businessman Amilcare Dallevo Neto — son of TV host Faa Morena and RedeTV! president Amilcare Dallevo Jr. — was also present.
The evening was hosted by TV presenter Catia Fonseca and journalist Márcio Gomes, who guided the audience through a night of cultural celebration.
When Wicked Meets the World’s Oldest Choir
One of the night’s highlights was a special appearance by Wicked musical actresses Fabi Bang and Myra Ruiz, who performed three songs alongside the choir. The moment fused the energy of Broadway-style musical theatre with the grandeur of choral tradition.
The convergence of Wicked’s leads and the Tabernacle Choir’s 330 voices created one of the most emotional moments of the evening.
45 Years Later, Brazil Welcomes Them Back
Founded in 1847, the Tabernacle Choir returns to São Paulo for the first time in 45 years with its world tour “Songs of Hope.” The tour has already reached more than 120,000 people in stadiums, arenas, and theaters across the United States, Mexico, the Philippines, Peru, and Argentina. The choir has previously shared the stage with Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Andrea Bocelli.
A Production on a Grand Scale
The ensemble arrives in Brazil with an impressive production: 330 voices, 70 volunteer musicians, and 78 instruments, including two harps. Conductor Mack Wilberg, one of the most respected names in contemporary choral music, leads the group.
The choir is keeping secret the identity of a Brazilian music star who will make a special appearance on Friday and Saturday nights. The Ibirapuera Arena setlist will also include Brazilian songs such as “Luar do Sertão,” which was performed during the choir’s first Brazilian tour in 1981.
Saturday’s concert will be broadcast live worldwide on YouTube via the choir’s official channel:
