Starring Carol Castro, Bruno Fagundes, Gustavo Mendes and Angela Rebello, the hit comedy “The Morning After” now runs until March 8 at Teatro VillaLobos.
Written by acclaimed British playwright Peter Quilter and directed by Thereza Falcão and Bel Kutner, the production has thrilled São Paulo audiences with its mix of wit and emotion. Presented by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture and CAIXA Residencial through the Federal Cultural Incentive Law, performances take place Friday through Sunday at Shopping Villa Lobos.
A comedy of love and chaos
In the story, Kátia (Carol Castro) and Tomás (Bruno Fagundes) wake up together after an unexpected night. Things get complicated when Kátia’s outspoken mother (Angela Rebello) and her mischievous brother Márcio (Gustavo Mendes) burst in, turning an awkward morning into hilarious emotional turmoil. The play explores affection, honesty and the art of embracing the unpredictable.
“The play is about real encounters — and, above all, about what remains unspoken,” says director Thereza Falcão.
According to Bel Kutner, “Its beauty lies in how it makes us laugh at our own humanity.”

Celebrated across Europe, the show has been described by UK critics as “brilliantly funny” and “delightfully entertaining from start to finish.” Following the São Paulo run, “The Morning After” embarks on a national tour across Brazil.
