On Jan 31, Teatro da Praça turns selection into practice: breakfast, theater games, and a hands-on class for its 2026 Professional Theater Program.
Teatro da Praça is now taking applications for its Professional Theater Program 2026, with an in-person selection on Saturday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instead of a standard interview, the team evaluates candidates during a practical session designed to reveal how each participant connects with the school’s teaching approach.
What the selection day looks like
The morning begins with a welcome reception and breakfast, followed by a presentation of the program for all registered applicants. Then comes a hands-on class featuring theater games and group dynamics, giving participants a clear sense of the method and pedagogical language developed at Teatro da Praça.
The selection process unfolds throughout this practical class, as the team observes each person’s affinity with the proposal—especially the program’s emphasis on collective creation and participant leadership on stage.
Four years, four productions
Open to teens and adults aged 14 and up, with no upper age limit, the course lasts four years and aims to build both practical skills and theoretical depth for those seeking professional work in theater. The curriculum is structured into four complementary cycles, covering multiple areas of stagecraft.
Subjects include theater history, acting, playwriting, improvisation, theater games, body and voice training, dubbing, set design, makeup, lighting, and theater pedagogy, among other core disciplines.
Throughout the program, students take part in four full productions, with regular seasonal runs each year. That means ongoing experience in creating, rehearsing, premiering, and building a relationship with an audience.
An independent school with its own method
With more than two decades of continuous activity, Teatro da Praça operates as an independent cultural space dedicated to training, creation, and theater outreach. Its approach links critical reflection to hands-on practice, engaging major theatrical traditions and thinkers while staying grounded in the craft of performance.
Classes meet as a single cohort on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The program is paid and geared toward people ready for a consistent, commitment-based training process.
