Performance artist Cássia Nunes launches the e-book Complexo das Artes Goianas on March 4 at 9am during FAV-UFG’s opening class in Goiânia, free entry.
Created by artist and educator Cássia Nunes (M.A. in Performing Arts from UFRJ), the Complexo das Artes Goianas project—“Associação Artística” series—was selected by PNAB/Secult Goiás and now reaches the public as a digital publication shaped by field research and exchange.
Complexo das Artes Goianas at FAV-UFG
The launch takes place at the School of Visual Arts at the Federal University of Goiás (FAV-UFG), in an opening-class session that also hosts a conversation with participating artists about how the collaborative sculptures were developed using fiber as a core material.
The project began with a deep dive into the work of self-taught sculptors working beyond institutional circuits. Its goal is to spotlight practices often rooted in domestic, self-run contexts—frequently distant from funding and broader circulation of work.
Along the way, Nunes—known in performance as “Vaca-educadora”—builds sculptures collaboratively with Divino Diesel and Geovane Pires, connecting research, encounter, and making in one shared process.
Exchange, not hierarchy
Nunes describes Complexo das Artes Goianas as an exchange among artists with different paths, training, and fields. The work also challenges how certain narratives rank aesthetics, creators, and territories, elevating some while pushing others aside.
“Esse projeto promove um trânsito entre linguagens artísticas, porque parte de um trabalho de performance para a produção de uma série de esculturas em colaboração com outros artistas.” — Cássia Nunes
Her questions move between academic and self-taught art, “center” and “periphery” scenes, and national versus regional histories. “Quais os efeitos da invisibilização das produções goianas nas narrativas hegemônicas da arte brasileira e no acesso a recursos materiais e simbólicos?” is one of the inquiries that keeps resonating across the project.
What’s inside the e-book
The publication works as a research memorial and premieres as an e-book at FAV-UFG. A printed edition is a near-future goal, depending on public funding.
Texts are authored by Cássia Nunes and other project members—Elias de Aquino, Ana Flávia Maru, and Octávio Scapin—alongside guest artists Divino Diesel and Geovane Pires. After the launch, the e-book will be available for free download via the Instagram bio listed by the artist.

“Nessa coleção de textos, o público vai encontrar um histórico da minha pesquisa, relatos do processo de criação e das trajetórias artísticas dos envolvidos. Em alguns dos textos, também brincamos de misturar ficção e realidade para falar do Complexo das Artes Goianas e da Vaca-educadora, essa personagem que existe como alter ego no trabalho”, says Cássia Nunes.
