As Dôra Lobo in “A Nobreza do Amor”, Vitória Rodrigues brings to life the strength and identity of Black women in 1920s Brazil.
Actress, poet, and multi-instrumentalist Vitória Rodrigues celebrates a defining moment in her career with the premiere of Globo’s new six o’clock telenovela “A Nobreza do Amor.” Set in the 1920s in the fictional town of Barro Preto (RN), the story portrays Dôra Lobo, a Black first lady balancing social expectations and self-acceptance in a prejudiced society.
“Giving voice and body to Dôra, a Black woman and first lady in the 1920s, is beautiful. We need to see ourselves in spaces of power,” says Vitória.
The character’s journey explores themes like hair straightening and racial identity. Vitória says the role is both personal and symbolic — a celebration of Black womanhood on Brazilian television. She shares the screen with Fábio Lago, portraying the town’s mayor, in a storyline that mixes love, ambition, and social transformation.
From Alagoas to national fame
Originally from Alagoas, Vitória moved to Rio de Janeiro to study acting while working in physical education. During the pandemic, she returned home and began sharing poetic videos on social media — now followed by more than 340 thousand people. Her online visibility led to hosting “Cordel da Gente” on GNT, a project she wrote and filmed entirely in her home state.
“I realized it’s not about where you are, but about believing in your art. My homeland gave me back my strength,” she reflects.
Poetry, music, and representation
Winner of the 2023 CBTIJ Award for Best Supporting Actress (“Gagá”), Vitória is also a musician and playwright. Her solo show “Tanto Canto, Quanto Conto” and singles like “Agradeça” and “Muito prazer, eu sou mulher” display her lyrical and rhythmic sensibility.
After appearances in “Vai na Fé” (2023) and “No Rancho Fundo” (2024), she highlights the growing presence of Northeastern artists in major productions. “Being Northeastern is the fuel of my art,” she says. “It doesn’t limit me — it empowers me.”
