Marginal opera TrabalhaDORES honors bus drivers and fare collectors in free performances at Parque Linear Kennedy on November 29, 30, and December 5.
With 18 years of research on public transportation as a social transformer, Zózima Trupe presents the free circulation of the show, which premiered in 2024. The show discusses inequalities faced by public transportation workers. “During the pandemic, many continued working without protection, leading to numerous deaths, including bus drivers and fare collectors,” says director Anderson Maurício.
The production involved extensive consultations with psychoanalysts and testimonies from workers, resulting in a sound-theater manifesto. The dramaturgy was finalized by Anderson Maurício with texts by Marcelino Freire, Ermínia Maricato, and Nabil Bonduki.
TrabalhaDORES is divided into two parts: a dark and painful beginning, with the cast portraying pandemic victims’ ghosts, and a colorful ending celebrating life and overcoming grief.
The staging takes place on the company’s traditional bus, featuring video mapping, an on-stage drum kit, and two opera singers, Cristiane Mesquita and Marcello Mesquita, alongside Zózima Trupe’s ensemble.
The show gives voice to the silence of the working class and denounces the invisibility of their demands, while seeking to restore life in its fullness.
Synopsis: During the pandemic, the bus did not stop and continued its route. Unprocessed grief shares space with indignation. The performance occurs inside a bus, in suspended time, as a multimedia operatic manifesto about death, life, and movement.
