O Grande Encontro drew 5,500 people to a free open-air show in Vacaria with 12 of Rio Grande do Sul’s biggest musical names.
The southern Brazilian city of Vacaria experienced a landmark night of regional culture on Saturday, March 21, as the free concert O Grande Encontro – Música dos Gaúchos (The Great Encounter – Music of the Gaúchos) packed Praça Daltro Filho square, in front of the Cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, with more than 5,500 attendees.
Twelve artists, one unforgettable night
The stage featured twelve leading voices of gaúcho music: Renato Borghetti, Elton Saldanha, César Oliveira e Rogério Melo, Shana Müller, Marcello Caminha, Cristiano Quevedo, Analise Severo, Juliana Spanevello, Ângelo Franco, Ricardo Bergha, Maria Alice, and Lincon Ramos. Together, they traversed the full breadth of the regional songbook, alternating between solo and collective performances backed by the project’s house band.
The crowd’s enthusiastic response throughout the night underscored the enduring power of gaúcho musical tradition and the project’s ability to bring communities together around shared cultural identity.
The event reaffirms the project’s commitment to making music accessible and strengthening gaucho identity across Rio Grande do Sul.
Community leaders take the stage
Several prominent figures attended the event and briefly addressed the audience. Among them were Fernando Lemos, president of Banrisul; Cesar Saut, president of Rio Grande Seguros e Previdência; Vacaria’s mayor Andrezinho Rokoski; Culture and Tourism Secretary Neto Ferreira; and director Tito Oliveira. Their speeches emphasized the role of culture in strengthening regional identity and boosting local economies.
Cultural and economic ripple effects
Beyond the cultural celebration, the event gave a tangible boost to Vacaria’s commerce, gastronomy, and tourism sectors. The 2026 tour now moves forward with two confirmed dates, reinforcing the project’s reach across the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
