Medals and expert feedback are becoming key marketing and improvement tools for South American craft brewers.
In an increasingly competitive market, beer competitions have become engines of growth and innovation. The South American Beer Cup 2026, taking place from April 13 to 16 in Bento Gonçalves (Brazil), will gather over 200 producers from seven countries, following international standards set by the Beer Judge Certification Program and the Brewers Association.
Beyond medals, competitions serve as technical validation, boosting brand positioning and commercial visibility. “For small and medium breweries with limited budgets, contests are powerful reputation tools. A medal gives instant credibility and unlocks new commercial opportunities,” says Jadna Bittencourt, sommelier at Biertal Brewery, with 24 medals since 2019.

Contests also foster innovation. Breweries often develop new labels tailored to competition categories or use feedback as technical validation before commercial launch. This exchange raises quality standards and fuels creative diversity across the brewing scene.
Gateway to the South American market
According to Júlia Quadros, technical coordinator of the event, the competition has become a key meeting point for professionals from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Venezuela. “It’s a high-level technical environment and an excellent gateway to the expanding South American market,” she explains.
This regional strengthening reflects a broader cultural shift — Latin America is becoming a reference in global brewing, valuing local ingredients and pioneering new styles that expand collaboration and export opportunities.
