Brazilian communicators guide workshops and panels in Mozambique through Inkumbú, strengthening Afro-diasporic cultural connections.
Brazil and Mozambique united by culture and communication
From December 6 to 11, Brazilian professionals join the international edition of “Inkumbú: Guardians of Time” in Maputo and Matola, Mozambique. Organized by Portal Diáspora, the initiative features workshops, panels, artistic meetings, and the creation of a mini-documentary that highlights cultural exchange between the two nations.
Created by journalist and educator Jadson Nascimento, Inkumbú promotes collaborative learning and strengthens communication as a tool for memory and transformation. Activities take place at the Instituto Guimarães Rosa, the Mozambican Writers Association, and the cultural space L’Attelier.
“Being in Mozambique is a return to our roots. Communication becomes memory, care and creation. Celebrating 50 years of Brazil-Mozambique partnership shows how deeply our stories intertwine,” says Nascimento.
Workshops, panels and creative production
The program includes writing, audiovisual, and digital media workshops. Journalist Márcia Eduarda leads a course on digital content creation, while advertiser and filmmaker Alexandro Santos teaches video production and coordinates the mini-documentary that records the journey in Mozambique.
The collaboration between Brazilian and Mozambican youth will generate an audiovisual piece to be released on Portal Diáspora, reflecting shared experiences in media, identity, and community storytelling.
Ancestral meaning and vision
The word Inkumbú, from the Kimbundu language, means “memory”. For the project, it symbolizes the active, living power of remembrance that guides new paths and connects people across the Afro-diasporic world.
Curated by Juci Reis and Jorge Dias, with management by Cátia Janainna and Amosse Mucavele, Inkumbú is supported by the Government of Bahia (through its Culture Fund), the Guimarães Rosa Institute, and partner platforms Flotar and OMI, as part of the 50-year commemoration of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Mozambique.
