Brazilian brand Cantão brought together inspiring women to discuss fashion, the job market, and female independence at a landmark Rio de Janeiro event.
On Wednesday evening (18), Rio-based fashion label Cantão hosted an unprecedented gathering that sparked rich conversations about creativity, identity, and female independence. The event was held in partnership with Papo Delas, a platform dedicated to connecting and empowering women’s professional journeys, co-founded by Maria Antonia Chady and Isabela Rozental.
Fashion as identity
The first panel was moderated by Mariana de Castro, a fashion business consultant, and explored how fashion evolves by drawing from the past to shape the future. Carolina Casarin — fashion history professor, costume designer, and author — offered a thought-provoking perspective on authenticity in style.
Fashion challenges us to be who we truly are.
Renata Simon, creative director of Cantão, reflected on what keeps the brand relevant after nearly 60 years in the market. For her, knowing the brand’s own essence is its greatest strength.
We make the fashion our customer wants, and we’re always tuned in to what’s happening in the world. Above all, the brand is authentic — it knows its own essence. — Renata Simon, Creative Director of Cantão
Denim, craftsmanship, and Cantão’s DNA
Renata Simon also highlighted the signature elements that have defined Cantão’s aesthetic for decades. She pointed to modern craftsmanship and the enduring power of denim as the brand’s non-negotiable pillars.
We are an everyday brand with a touch of modern craftsmanship. Our denim is a true strength — embroidered jackets in both denim and twill are hugely popular right now. That’s our DNA, and we’ve always been recognized for it. — Renata Simon, Creative Director of Cantão
Female independence takes center stage
The second panel went deeper into the theme of women’s autonomy in the workplace and beyond. Moderated by Isabela Rozental, co-founder of Papo Delas, the discussion featured journalist Maria Fortuna and Clariza Rosa, co-founder and business leader at Agência Silva.
Together, the panelists explored the challenges and victories that define contemporary women’s trajectories, underscoring the value of spaces that foster genuine connection and exchange.
